Tents from Bison Bushcraft

Black Line Range

Black Line Range

Black tents offer a whole new world of versatility and flexibility - an adventure in construction like no other. From the standard patrol tent, the Kohte, to the Yurt shaped tents called Jurte, you will be amazed at all the possibilities offered by these tents. By joining the different modular elements together you can create all manner of different structures including the vast tented spaces that you see at jamborees. Ideal for all sizes of groups they are easy to transport and erect; they are hard wearing, long lasting, breathable and capable of accommodating a fire inside.

Jurte Origins

Jurte Origins

The Jurte, which translates to Yurt in English, is based upon the traditional nomadic structures of Middle and North Asia. The traditional design incorporates lattice walls, roof poles, a crown and a felt covering but would still break down quickly and easily so it could be transported to a new location. It would have been used more as a group living space than as a family space but its shape and size lends itself to multiple uses.
This version applies the same principles but using cotton instead of felt and modern telescopic poles instead of a lattice wall. The basic shape is the same, the basic function is the same, but, unlike a Yurt, it's capable of being a whole lot more.

Delivery includes a days instruction on putting them up and taking down and is set at a flat  £100 in Europe only.

8m Jurte

Black Line 8m Jurte

Black 8m Jurte with weather flaps to protect the joint where the full roof meets the sides. Flaps make an excellent weather seal as they cover the edge where the sides are buttoned on to the roof. The 8m tents are not designed to be joined together so they are offered with no options.
This is 50m2 of tent that you can have a fire in - an ideal communal space for large groups, yet still easily transportable in a car.

Base product set consists of:

  1 x 8m roof with weather flaps
1 x XL roof cap with weather flaps
7 x XL double side panel (side height 209cm)
2 x XL single side panel (side height 209cm)
 16 x telescopic side poles
 16 x 4.5m guy ropes with stays
 16 x 50cm steel T-pegs
 1 x robust deadblow mallet
 1 x roof chain
 1 x 10m poly-hemp rope
 1 x double pulley
 3 x centre poles (3 piece, 510cm, 67mm dia.)

6m Jurte

6m Jurte

The standard 6m Jurte, and the most popular given that most scout groups tend to buy just this version as a communal space. It comes with a single piece 6m roof with weather flaps where the roof meets the side, an XL cap (designed specifically to combat UK weather conditions) and 1.65m high sides. If you're planing on purchasing more tents and joining them up in the future please bear in mind that weather flaps can get in the way. Please contact us to discuss what you have in mind prior to purchase.
The cap can be easily unwrapped to allow smoke to escape from the tent and a 60cm fire bowl (available separately) will soon have the tent nice and warm. The standard Jurte gives you 28 square metres of  Floor space yet still packs down to fit in a car and can be erected by one person in about an hour (with a bit of practice). All Jurtes come with full on-site training and full ongoing support.

Can you imagine a tent so light, so easy to handle and so safe and reliable that you can go mountain walking with it and at the same time enjoy the home comforts of your living room: ample space for socialising and activities, standing height, and yes, even an "open fire" if you like? A Tentipi tent has all this to offer! Our number one priority is that a Tentipi® single-pole kåta is to be the world's most versatile tent in combination with high standards of quality, safety and reliability.

Which size do I need?

A "5" will sleep 6 "expedition style" or 2 to 3 comfortably.

A "7" will sleep 8 "expedition style" or 4 to 5 comfortably.

A "9" will sleep 10 "expedition style" or 5 to 6 comfortably.

A "15" will sleep 15 "expedition style" or 10 comfortably.

Use our  Floor plans and pictures to try and visualise the space you need. Think how far you must carry the tent and how many people there are to help. A bigger tent is more sensitive to snow and strong winds.
Tip: if you are not limited by weight and extreme weather, think bigger for the extra comfort.

What fabric should I choose? - Breathable or lightweight fabric?

Breathable cotton/polyester:

+ It lets condensation out, so you have a more comfortable atmosphere inside the tent.

This is especially valuable during winter time.

+ Better protection against the sun's UV rays.
- Strong winds can force small raindrops to penetrate the fabric (a rare situation) - use an  Inner-tent.
- The impregnation could be ruined by chemicals such as: anti-mosquito preparations, hand-creams or soap.

Lightweight fabric:

+ Makes your Nordic Tipi easier to carry.
+ Resists storm-rain better.
- Less comfortable and cosy atmosphere

Tip:

Choose cotton/polyester fabric unless you are trekking, when you will be carrying the tent long distances. Further information regarding fabric can be found in the Tentipi catalogue pages 54-55.

How much should I spend?

Some say Tentipi Nordic tipis are expensive. But they are also much more than a tent. They are your home in your rucksack, not just a shelter. And, at the end of a long day outdoors, isn't home comfort worth paying a bit more for?

Our best tents are  Safir and Topas, followed by  Zirkon. Kvarts is a more budget-priced model.

They all offer you versatility, safety, comfort and durability in varying degrees.
