Bison Bushcraft Hand Made Knives

Bison Bushcraft Training Courses 2013

Why choose us? Perhaps our experience will tell.

Roger HarringtonRoger Harrington is the founder of Bison Bushcraft and has been working in the outdoors and Bushcraft world since 1992. Bison Bushcraft as a business has been teaching Bushcraft since 1996. Roger’s involvement in bushcraft started at an early age with his family’s involvement in Scouting, with those initial skills in the background Roger has travelled the world through deserts, jungles, Arctic and down south to The Falklands researching and learning bushcraft and relative primitive living skills. Roger has served in the military where his skills were put to good use teaching survival to various regiments of the British Army in Germany, Norway and The UK. He is an accomplished craftsman with his own range of handmade knives and leather work, as well as a vast skill base covering greenwood crafts and bow making. He has led various expeditions to remote areas of The US, Canada and Scotland and founded The Wilderness Gathering with his partner in that venture Dominic Harvey.

Roger spends as much time as possible either outdoors or in the workshop, keeping all his skill sets up to scratch.

Bison Bushcraft has not felt the need to invent its own set of qualifications as seen elsewhere. They are just an honest school packed with experience, skills and good nature. The courses are fully risk-assessed, insured and all Bison staff are CRB checked and have your safety and enjoyment as their number one priority.

Rob Law

Rob Law instructor for Bison Bushcraft

One of our most experienced instructors, Rob is a fully qualified arborist who claims to have been raised by wolves. His sense of humour and passion for all Bushcraft skills make him an asset to all of our training events. Robs experiences as a gamekeeper have a natural influence on the countryman course and what he doesn’t know about trees isn’t written yet.
When not working with us you’ll find Rob out there somewhere fly fishing, ferreting or shooting. Rob is always on the quest to increase his skill base and has recently learnt how to construct a coracle.

You'll need your knife, axe, a willingness to learn and a few tales for around the camp fire in the evening.

The Countyman Course

The skills we employ for Bushcraft in the UK are generally associated with or derived from the skills employed by country folk to procure food, fire, water and shelter. To have a knowledge or understanding of these skills can only be an asset to anybody venturing out into the countryside.
This course is not a full on Bushcraft course but more of a weekend of county pursuits whilst living in the relative luxury of a wood-stove heated tipi and eating in comfortable heated hut around a table each mealtime. Meals will be based on locally procured game and the game preparation will be part of the course.
Other skills we will cover in this course include Ferreting and netting rabbits, Trapping and snaring, Safe rifle shooting (.22 rimfire), Lamping for game, Shotgun safety and shooting, Archery and a couple of hours coaching in flycasting.
This course will start earlier (1300) on The Friday than our normal weekends and is based in our East Sussex woodland.

Course Cost : £325

Wildfood & Wilderness Cooking Skills

Wildfood Cooking“Any fool can be uncomfortable” – If your trips away are fuelled by tinned, dehydrated or “boil-in-the-bag” rations then this could be a worthwhile weekend away.
Cooking in the great outdoors utilizes a whole host of bushcraft skills – firecraft, campcraft, plant lore – are all used when creating meals in an outdoor environment, so this is the ideal next step for anyone with a basic knowledge of bushcraft. Over the weekend we will cover selection of ingredients and utensils, methods of cookery, menu planning and field hygiene. Held on our beautiful woodland estate in east Sussex, you will be shown a whole range of culinary skills, suitable for the lone back packer and the family camper alike.

Rifle Awareness

This course is aimed at shooters who are Firearms Certificate holders or FAC applicants. The training will be delivered by qualified instructors and will be based in West Kent. Our one day training package will include rifle safety and introductions to marksmanship, firearm terminology, rifle handling and firearm/calibre specific performance.
The Bison Bushcraft commitment to good training practise ensures that key parts of this day will be delivered on low student to instructor ratio. This means there will be some inevitable downtime. We will fill this time with instruction on knife safety, care and handling.
There will be a certificate issued at the end of the day that may be used as documentary evidence in support of a firearms certificate application.

There is a minimum number of six students on this course.
Course cost: £115 per person.
Dates: to be announced

TBA  Full Fee £115.00

Group Bookings available with dates arranged by mutual agreement.

For experienced shooters we can arrange a long range shooting day on a private facility in Wales which can accommodate virtually any distance that your rifle is capable of shooting. The targets can be arranged for level, uphill and downhill shooting at distances from 100 to 1500 metres. Not for the faint-hearted. Prices vary according to individual requirements.
