Bison Bushcraft Hand Made Knives

Bison Bushcraft Knives

Roger Harrionton Knife MakerBison Bushcraft Knives are all individually hand made by Roger Harrington.

He has been a full time custom knife maker since 1997. Roger's initial designs for knives came from his Bushcraft training skills, these designs have subsequently been refined over the years based on personal experience, customer feedback and further designs.

You can choose your own steel type and handle materials for you knife as well as take up different options with the scabbard. It is possible to personalise your knife with names or initials on the blade.

Roger is quite happy to discuss your own ideas and designs for a truly personal project.

Most steel types and handle materials can be sourced even if not listed, so feel free to make contact to commission your knife project.

"I have always promised myself a hand made knife and eventually settled on sourcing it from Bison Bushcraft. As you are aware I ordered a Bushman's Pal and whilst its size may not make it everyone's first choice, it fits in my hand perfectly and it is man enough for the general field work that I find myself involved in.  Congratulation's Roger on a superbly crafted product it has been well worth the wait."

Knife Balance Due:

Bison Bushcraft Knife

The original and still the most popular. I make this model out of three millimetre thick 01 tool steel. Small and light enough to be carried unobtrusively around your neck or on your belt, yet strong and large enough to stand up to the rigours of bushcraft.
The Bushcraft knife has a flat ground blade profile as used by the Northern Scandinavians for hundreds of years, ideally suited to woodcutting and perfect for skinning and light splitting work. The grind profile being without a secondary bevel is easy to maintain in the field. Each knife comes with a combination belt / neck scabbard and a Swedish firesteel.

Slipjoint Folder

Bison Bushcraft Slipjoint FolderMy slipjoint folder is a sub three inch blade, non locking folding knife. This is a UK legal EDC or every day carry pocket knife.
Rather than design the knife to have a three inch blade as is the legal maximum I've worked back from a useful handle size. I've chosen a grip shape and size that is both comfortable in the hand and the pocket and made the optimum blade size to suit.
The handle frame and bolsters are machined from solid to add greater strength at the pivot, no soldered on bolsters are used on this knife. The pivot has bronze bushings to ensure a smooth action. The blade and spring are made from 01 tool steel with the blade ground to a scandi profile with a zero bevel.
There is a lanyard hole at the rear of the handle and the scales are mitred into the bolsters. Our normal selection of handle materials are available as are the steel options.
All of the parts from this knife are hand made by myself with no kit parts employed. The heat treatment I do myself.

Closed length: 97mm
Blade length: 65mm
Blade thickness: 1.6mm
Blade steel: 01 tool steel
Construction: Slip-joint or spring-back folder non-locking with bronze pivot bushings. Scandinavian grind blade profile.

Bushman's Pal

Bushman's PalA compact version of the woodcraft knife supplied in an oak tanned pouch style scabbard. A perfectly sized knife to carry in a pocket or day pack without the drawbacks of a folding knife. It has a full tang construction of 3mm blade stock that gives it the strength to cope with all the jobs of its larger brothers, but at 160mm overall length it remains unobtrusive.

Bushmans Pal 2

Bushmans Pal 2I thought I’d reached perfection with the Bushmans Pal, however further development has produced this model. It’s made from 2mm stock (hence the 2) with slightly different dimensions. This model is lighter in weight, slimmer in the handle, now with a lanyard hole as standard. The Bushmans Pal 2 has fibre liners to the handle scales to give the thinner scales strength whilst making the knife more pleasing to the eye.
Each knife is presented in a slim line, hand stitched, oak-tanned pouch with a Scandinavian type twisted loop/hanger.

Woodsman Knife

The woodsman Knife is made from 4mm blade stock and is therefore heavier and stronger than the model made from 3 and 2 mm stock. It retains the full tang construction of the rest of the knives with a longer handle that is made to suit larger hands. Like the other models it is supplied in a hand stitched, oak tanned leather, pouch style scabbard. The drop point blade and Scandinavian flat grind make this an ideal knife for field use but it is a useful sized knife for carving projects.

Double Knife

Double Knife

This pair of knives are designed to compliment each other, both are made to the same profile and the handle scales are cut from the same wood.
They are made in the style of The Scandinavian double knives but with the added strength of full tang construction. Each has the Traditional flat Scandinavian grind and would come as standard in two and three millimetre O1 tool steel stock.
The belt scabbard is made from oak bark tanned leather and has a flexible belt loop for comfort in carrying.

Woodcraft Knife

Although it has the same dimensions as the original Bison Bushcraft knife it's profile is altogether more rounded. The drop point blade has a rounded curve to the point and the pommel of the handle is rounded for added comfort in use. It is constructed of 3mm blade stock and has a full tang. It is supplied in an oak tanned scabbard with a belt loop that allows the scabbard to flex when you are seated.

Forester Knife

A 4mm blade stock knife of full tang construction and a contoured, positive feel to the handle. The birds head pommel and swelling to the belly of the grip make it an easier knife to control when used for heavier duty work. It's drop point Scandinavian grind blade has a cutting edge that extends almost all the way to the handle scales, giving maximum mechanical advantage when cutting with that part of the blade. The blade is also no longer than the width of the average hand for the same reason. Supplied in a, hand made scabbard that has the option to include a firesteel if you wish, it makes a perfect knife to accompany you on extended back country travels.

Bird & Trout Knife

Bird & Trout KnifeA full tang knife of more delicate 2mm blade stock. This knife gives you the strength but delicacy for those jobs requiring more finesse. Supplied with an oak tanned pouch style scabbard it makes the perfect companion to fishing or bird shooting trips as well as finding a place in your wood carving kit due to its more delicate attributes.

Bison Nordic Knife

Bison Nordic KnifeTaking some inspiration from those beautiful Scandinavian designs, this knife has all the strength and attributes of our Bushcraft knives with its full tang construction and 3mm tool steel stock. The handle shape and slightly longer blade lends itself to gloved use in colder climates and the straight blade spine makes a perfect scraper for fine feathering of kindling or smoothing craft projects.

Camp Knife

Camp KnifeThis is a fairly large knife designed for heavy work. The original inspiration comes from some large knives I've collected over the years that originate in The Philippines. The dimensions of this knife are similar to knives locally purchased by US Navy pilots who did their survival training in The Philippines prior to their deployment to The Vietnam war.
My version of this knife has a blade of 8 inches and an overall length of 13 ¼ inches. Hardness is 59hrc. All the usual options are available for this knife, however I do recommend 01 tool steel as a blade steel of choice for this one.

Hunter Knife

Hunter Knife from Bison BushcraftThis knife is generally made from 4mm stock. It employs my usual full tang
construction and Scandi grind. The shape of the blade has a higher point and
therefore the edge is more upswept. Experience has led me to the conclusion
that this is a good profile for game preparation, especially when you have
your work suspended in front of you.

Shown with: optional pinned handle scales, exotic woods and Damasteel blade.
